Pushing Tide at Kind of – gallery
On Thursday 18 September, kind of — gallery officially opened at the TWT Creative Precinct with the launch of Pushing Tide, an exhibition of new works by Nathan Brindles.
Kind of – gallery , located at 58 Atchison Street, St Leonards, has a strong emphasis on promoting culture and creativity through street and contemporary art. They aim to support the wider Sydney arts community by representing established and emerging artists, offering them cheap or free space to showcase their work.
Nathan Brindle’s third solo exhibition Pushing Tide showcased a series of drawings and paintings that explores the Kimberley region of Western Australia; documenting his personal narratives as well as the sublime and brutal geography encountered whilst travelling in the region. Brindle’s work flags a new mode of experimental cartography which merges place, identity and narrative. Referencing the slowing of momentum against the tidal changes while travelling by boat. Pushing Tide touches on the legacy of artists working at the Australian frontier, where solitude in the vastness of the landscape is often paralleled with interior exploration.
Nathan Brindle is a Sydney-based artist whose practice draws upon his expertise as a chef, skateboarder and fisherman. Known for collage-style mixed-media drawings and paintings, Brindle’s figurative work references travel and place, storytelling and introspection.
