About The TWT Creative Precinct
A major arts undertaking by TWT, the TWT Creative Precinct is an exciting, vibrant new initiative which involves the conversion of a number of commercial buildings between Atchison St and Chandos St to be used as creative spaces such as artist studios, gallery, multi-media or theatrical space for a proposed 18 month to two year period.
The development of the TWT Creative Precinct is a major turning point in the cultural landscape of Sydney’s lower north shore and particularly, St Leonards.
On Thursday 27 November, 2014 the TWT Creative Precinct celebrated its official grand opening with a Block Party that encompassed multiple creative venues on Atchison Street, Chandos Street and Atchison Lane in St Leonards, Sydney.
Guests were treated to a myriad of creative experiences including the unveiling of acclaimed street artist, Fintan Magee’s three storey-street art mural, gypsy bands in caravans, Sangria in a bicycle workshop, giant bunnies guiding guests to all the action, brass band flash mobs filing through the laneways, ballet performances, an assortment of art exhibitions, dancing in the dark, delicious local food and a beautiful traditional aboriginal smoking ceremony to bless and cleanse the creative precinct. Proposed plans for the future in St Leonards
TWT Creative Precinct is part of a broad-based commitment to encouraging and supporting art and creativity in St Leonards as an extension of the creative community that already exists. TWT is eager to have this part of the community re-energised and celebrated.
Our consultation with the local community has overwhelming indicated that demand exists from the local community in St Leonards to create a ‘village enclave’ with open green space surrounded by specialty retail, engaging and inspiring arts activities, and community facilities.
It is our aim and vision to deliver this for the local community and see a true revitalisation of this lower north shore community with creativity and an enduring focus on the arts at its centre.
